London Weekends

Yesterday, Friday, was a very fun day as well. I had class until about 1 and then we headed out on the tube to Leichester Square to search for discounted theatre tickets. Jenna, Rachel and I ended up buying three tickets to Wicked and will be seeing it next Wednesday night at the Apollo Victoria theatre. The tickets were about 28 pounds, so it was kind of a splurge, but I think it will be worth it. The three of us then branched off from the others and went to Piccadilly Circus, which is basically the Times Square of London. It was one of the main sites I wanted to see because it's always in movies that are set in London. Tons of people, but very entertaining. When we first came up the stairs of the tube station we could hear bagpipes coming from a street performer. Besides him, we had earlier heard a woman opera singer in the tube station.

We shopped in some wonderfully cheesy souvenir shops, found a mall, and then spent some time in the M&M store, which included life sized M&M's walking on Abbey Road, it was quite humorous. After our shopping excursion, we came back to the flat and made grilled cheese and soup for dinner. Then later, basically the whole group of students here went out to find a club or pub to hang out in. Sadly, we couldn't get into any clubs because there was such a big group of us, all dressed up and clearly American. The one place even made a good excuse that no one could get in unless they were on a guest list, but I think it was because of the amount of people in our group. The solution to this problem was the splitting up of the group to a few pubs. We ended up at O'Neills and stayed until about 11:30. It was fun, we just stood/sat there and talked. One of the girls, Karissa, was the first one to get a drink bought for her by someone, a middle-aged French guy who was kind of creepy. While he was talking to her we were all crowded around and kept an eye on the situation. Anyways, it was a fun night, ending in our late night run for fast food and then hanging out in the classroom out back until about 1am.

Today was lazy. I didn't wake up until about 11:45 or so, I'm not even sure, but it was nice. I think I needed it because this week has been so crazy, walking soo much. After everyone was ready, Jenna, Rachel and a few other girls who live downstairs went to Notting Hill. There was this Portabello Market there, which is basically a long street of shops with a market along it as well. Anything you could want to buy, from souvenirs, antiques, scarfs, clothes, food, it could be found there. It was cute, but so packed that it was hard to see anything, so we will probably go back on some weekday when it is a little slower. Tonight we are going to eat frozen pizzas, make some popcorn, and watch the movie, Notting Hill so that the next time we go back, we will be able to find the places that were in the film.

Tomorrow is going to be a lazy day as well, with the only productive thing I want to do being laundry and reading for my Monday class. I will probably skype with some people as well, but we will not be leaving Earl's Court. I think that will be nice, a day to completely relax. It's been exactly a week today, so crazy. I really am loving London.
