How is it the 6th week?

So it is already the 6th week of my time here in London, and I really can't believe it. It seems like I have been here for a while, but doesn't seem like it should be time to go. Next week is our last week, with final papers due at the end, and then spring break! Jenna, Rachel and I are heading straight to Paris for the week, and will be there four days on our own before meeting up with Charlotte, Kelsey and Lizzie. It will be so great!

Okay so yesterday we had class with Andrew in the morning and then met up with him in the afternoon at the Victoria & Albert Museum. After a little time there, we walked down to the Albert Memorial and he taught us about that. We didn't have much free time yesterday, just about two hours for dinner. Rachel made us chicken sandwiches, yum, and then we had a show to attend last night. The show was called The Travelling Light and was about a Russian man who was interested in film making before that was a common thing. He had a motion picture camera and began making movies in his village before eventually moving to America and making it big. It was the story of his life and career, and was really good. I think it was interesting because the action was shown through the actors, but the audience also got to see some of the scenes of the movies the main character made on projectors throughout the theatre. The mixture between video and real life action was something I've never seen before in a play. I think this show might have been my favorite one so far, or at least tied with a few others. It had a love story involved in it, as well as a storyline revolving around a community, so the combination was nice. There was also a twist at the end that wasn't completely expected, but that wrapped everything up and answered questions.

After the show, the 7 of us girls that live on the same floor decided to go out for a drink. So we found a pub near the National Gallery and sat there for about an hour. They all ordered either beer or cider, which here doesn't mean juice, but a separate alcoholic drink kind of like beer. I didn't drink because I'm really worried about triggering a headache, but I still had fun.

Today, Tuesday, we had a tour of the East End with a woman that our professor, Natania, knew. The woman's name was Nadia, and she is a professor of Jewish studies among other things. The tour was informative for sure, and it was interesting to see a different side of the city, a more residential and smaller business area. The East End has always suffered from poverty, being much worse in earlier centuries, but still isn't rich by any means today. Graffiti covered a lot of walls, and it just looked and felt a little polished. Of course, every city has areas like this, and the fact that I really haven't seen many after a month in London is impressive. At one point, Nadia even said, "I'm going to take you where no London tour ever would" just because it is not touristy at all, and not the best perspective of the city.

After our tour, we had the rest of the day off. I stayed in the flat because laundry, homework and organizing needed to get done. We bought our airline tickets from Paris to Pisa, so that was an accomplishment. From Pisa, we will take a bus to Florence, that will all be on March 25th. Nothing too exciting happening tonight, but that's okay. Tomorrow we have class in the morning and then at night we are going to see Matilda the Musical, which I'm really excited about, it should be good. Then Thursday morning at about 4:30 in the morning, we take a taxi to the bus station in order to get on our plane to Dublin. So many more forms of transportation are needed just to get that far, it's so strange being somewhere that driving isn't an option. Obviously people drive in London, but so many do take public transit.

I will blog again after our long weekend in Dublin. Until then, have a good week/weekend everyone!
